Amwatts Tweed Deluxe (50s Tweed 15WD) Review
 
I’ve had this amp for around two years now and it’s my personal favourite. I’ve got a nice selection of amps to choose from but I find myself firing this one up most of the time. The amp is beautifully built and Mark certainly has an eye for detail. From the wiring to the tweed covering the amp looks flawless. Initially I felt that the limited controls might be an issue for me but those mere three knobs the amp has command so much power. As far as reliability goes I’ve had it for two years and haven’t had to touch anything.
 
The amp has plenty of volume on tap and has a lot of clean headroom. I’ve noticed that other tweed deluxe amps break up very early. This one will still break up but at what I’d consider a manageable level. I can still get the amp loud and have it stay clean but with just a few adjustments to the controls I can move it into a nice break up.
 
Both the volume controls interact which I find allows me to adjust some of the midrange as well. The clean tones are superb with chords or picking. The amp has a natural bloom to it and can really fill up a room. I usually throw a little reverb into it just to top it off, great for country and rockabilly runs. The bright channel works equally well and linking both together gives me a huge amount of flexibility.
 
As for dirty tones, raising the volume and tone control levels brings the amp into my favorite Neil Young tones with a good rounded crunch that never gets harsh. It works really well with a P90 equipped guitar and surprisingly well with humbuckers. No doubt due to the useful mods Mark has put in the amp. The amp never gets overwhelmed or flubby, it stays tight and pushes the sound right out in front. It’s also a nice even platform for my pedals and responds well to drives or boosts.
 
When it comes to service I’ve found Mark to be very helpful. He is one of those honest, genuine blokes that will always go out of his way to help you out. The amp and his service have been exceptional and I’ve been left very impressed with both.
